It's not difficult to see why the central Kruger National Park, which runs northward from the Sabie River to the Olifants, is a favorite with many seasoned South African safari-goers. The relatively open grassland here often supports large mixed herds of zebra and wildebeest, and it's a great place for carnivores such as lion, cheetah and black-backed jackal. Look out for elephants and buffaloes grouped along the region's many rivers and waterholes, as well as the elusive and solitary leopard and rhino.

You'll be exploring the southern portion of the Kruger National Park, where a well-developed network of surfaced and gravel roads runs through a classic African bush landscape inhabited by substantial populations of all the Big Five.
